Introducing Black Hills Insider — A Podcast Celebrating the People Behind the Hills

Have you ever met someone in the Black Hills and thought, “Wow, more people need to hear their story”? That thought sparked the creation of Black Hills Insider, a brand-new podcast hosted, created, and produced by Falina Selchert, local Realtor, entrepreneur, and proud community advocate.

Launching in January 2026, this weekly show is all about shining a light on the people and stories that make the Black Hills such a special place to live, work, and raise a family.

A Show for the Locals, About the Locals

Black Hills Insider dives deep into the lives of the people who give the region its heartbeat — the small business owners, the entrepreneurs, the dreamers, and the doers. Each episode explores why they chose to build their lives here or what keeps them rooted in this rugged slice of South Dakota paradise.

Falina explains, “I kept meeting incredible people through my work and daily life — from bakers and builders to artists and ranchers — and realized their stories weren’t being shared. I wanted to create a space that celebrates the everyday heroes who make our communities thrive.”

Why the Podcast Exists

Rural America often gets overlooked, but here in the Black Hills, local businesses and families carry a quiet strength that deserves recognition. Falina created the show to spotlight these community members, share their journeys, and highlight the challenges and triumphs of running a business or raising a family in smaller towns.

“Our local business owners pour their hearts into what they do,” says Falina. “They employ our neighbors, sponsor our kids’ sports teams, and give back to our communities in ways that rarely make headlines. I want to give them a microphone — literally — to tell their stories.”

Through a mix of guest interviews and solo episodes, each week brings fresh perspectives on life in the Hills — from business lessons to personal stories, and even a few laughs along the way.

What Listeners Can Expect

The first season of Black Hills Insider promises an exciting lineup of guests, each offering their own slice of the region’s story:

• A local mortgage lender sharing insights on homeownership in the current market.

• A hairstylist who’s built a loyal following by turning her salon into a community hub.

• A bridal shop owner helping brides find their dream dress right here in the Black Hills.

• A wildlife and habitat specialist who works to protect spiders and preserve local ecosystems.

• A history buff dedicated to documenting and protecting private landowners’ stories and heritage.

Each conversation uncovers what drives these individuals, what challenges they face, and how they’re shaping the future of the Northern Hills — from Belle Fourche to Spearfish, Deadwood, and beyond.

When and Where to Listen

Episodes will be released every Wednesday morning, starting January 2026. That mid-week timing was chosen to give listeners something inspiring to enjoy on their commute, coffee break, or morning walk.
